Job Opportunities
Railway Traffic Expert (Design & Infrastructure Planning)
Objective
- As the Railway Traffic Expert for this design project, you will bridge the gap between civil engineering and operational reality. You will be responsible for ensuring that the track layout, signaling placement, and station designs support the intended service frequency, tonnage, and safety requirements of the future network.
Responsibilities would Typically include (but not be limited to):
- Operational Concept Development: Define how the rail system will function (e.g., headway requirements, speed profiles, and integration with existing lines).
- Capacity Modeling & Simulation: Utilize software (such as OpenTrack, RailSys, or Viriato) to run “stress tests” on proposed track designs to identify potential bottlenecks before construction begins.
- Signaling & Interlocking Design Input: Consult with engineers to determine the optimal placement of signals and block sections based on braking distances and traffic density.
- Rolling Stock Compatibility: Ensure the infrastructure design (platform heights, curve radii, gradients) accommodates the specific train sets intended for the line.
- Station & Hub Layout: Optimize track geometry at stations to minimize dwell times and allow for efficient “shunting” or overtaking maneuvers.
- Safety & Risk Assessment: Conduct formal evaluations on operational risks, specifically regarding “points” (switches) and junctions
Technical Requirements
- Engineering Background: Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or Systems Engineering.
- Simulation Expertise: High proficiency in rail traffic simulation tools to provide data-backed design recommendations.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of international standards (e.g., UIC, TSI, or AREMA) and safety integrity levels (SIL).
- Infrastructure Interface: Ability to read and interpret complex CAD drawings and alignment plan
